I enjoyed visiting my aunt and uncle's
farm on the Sheyenne River. They had no children of their own, which meant that they spoiled their
nephews rotten. I could get away with murder out at their place.I think I gained my love for technology out there. My uncle had a
blacksmith shop,
and even though I am sure I ruined many pieces of his equipment, he let me
tinker around to my heart's content. For a young boy growing up, it was
absolutely enthralling.
I really loved being out on their farm for a few weeks each summer..even
though my aunt made me eat tomatoes.
In the above photo (circa: 1950), I am standing (with their trusty dog, Teddy) and very close to the single most
carnivorous and predatory calves in North Dakota. Being a city boy, I was always clumsy and a bit leery about being out at
the farm. Vicious farm animals those cows and chickens, let me tell you.
